Sr. Patricia Couture, OSU

Sister Patricia Couture died peacefully April 15, 2021, in Waterville, Maine.

She was born on Dec. 10, 1928, to Wilfred and Yvonne Dubois Couture in Sanford, Maine. She entered the Ursulines in 1947 and professed her vows in 1949. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of New Rochelle and a master’s degree from Boston College. She continued her education in France, where she received her French certificate.

Sister Patricia’s great love of Catholic education led her to teaching Latin, English and geometry at Ursuline Academy in Springfield, Massachusetts. She went on to teach at Mount Merici Academy in Waterville, and at her alma mater, St. Ignatius High School in Waterville, where she also served as principal. She also was an archivist at the Ursuline Generalate in Rome, Italy, and served in many leadership roles.

Sister Patricia loved all the students served and her fellow Ursulines. She was known for her kind and gentle manner.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Marianne Couture of West Allis, Wisconsin, and her cousin Doris Gagne of Springvale, Maine.

Services at Ursuline Convent Chapel in Waterville and committal at the Ursuline Sisters’ cemetery there will be held later.
