Spring/Summer 2005 issue
- At the end of June 2005, after living almost 128 years in their Convent building at 1400 North Fifth Street, the Ursulines of Springfield have handed over this property to Springfield College in Illinois, providing space for both College and Academy ministries to grow. Nine Ursulines remain as a vital presence in Springfield, continuing to serve in a variety of ministries, including Springfield College and St. Joseph School and Parish.
- On June 5, 2005, alumnae and friends of Ursuline Academy of St. Louis enjoyed the first public viewing of the Academy's new Convocation and Athletic Center. Academy president Sr. Madonna O'Hara uses the Capital Campaign theme, "Breaking New Ground, Building Together," to also describe the ways that Ursuline Academy uses modern technology to meet students' individual needs and integrates ethnic, academic and socio-economic diversity into the school's entire educational program.
- On March 5-6, 2005, approximately 25 Ursulines representing the Missouri living groups gathered on the Ursuline Academy campus to decide how reconfiguration among their groups would be accomplished. During those days, participants truly responded to the challenge to "go as pilgrims into a new way of living Ursuline life in our Central Province." By the end of their gathering they had discerned that four new Ursuline living sites would be opening in the St. Louis area, and that Crystal City, Cape Girardeau and DeSoto will continue to be Ursuline living sites.
Autumn 2004 issue
- Central Province's Ursuline Companions in Mission during 2004-2005-Fiona Hibbert and Angela Tangeman-share their introduction to Companions by their director, Sr. Diane Fulgenzi, and describe their experience of service both at Villa Maria Center in Frontenac and in the residential program for male juvenile offenders at Minnesota's Juvenile Correctional Facility in Red Wing, Minnesota.
- "Choosing Life": three Central Province Ursulines, Sisters Anne Therese Mayol, Mary Ellen Garvey, and Mary Ellen Neeves, share their individual responses when faced with potentially debilitating or fatal illnesses.
- In mid-July 2004, Ursuline Sisters and Associates representing Congregations and Provinces from Canada, Mexico, and the United States gathered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the fifth North American Ursuline Convocation. The theme of this gathering: "Angela: Prophet of Hope for Our Day."
Spring 2004 issue
- Vocation Ministry among the Ursulines of the Central Province has become very much a collaborative endeavor, with Sister Susan Kienzler involved in diverse events, including a spring trip that introduced college students to Ursuline ministry on the U.S.-Mexican border; a discernment retreat for young women led by four Ursulines; and a campus ministry "Nun Run," during which college women visited nine religious communities in the St. Louis area.
- As Imani Family Center celebrates ten years of service in St. Louis, founders LaDoris Payne and Sister Mary Jude Jun recall its history, reminding us that the values and counsels of St. Angela Merici, foundress of the Ursulines, have always been at the core of this ministry to African-American women and children.
- In her keynote address at the Province Conference in Dallas, Texas, Sister Peggy Moore challenged Central Province Ursulines to consider the present realities of our Province in the context of our long Ursuline history and the challenge of the Gospel.
