A reflection from Polly Ohman

Benefactor to the work of
Sr. Maria Teresa de Llano OSU in Brownsville, Texas

I suspect it was in the 70’s that I succumbed to a request to teach CCD in a classroom in the local Catholic elementary school, manned by one Sr. Mary Thomas OSU. This woman, exemplary of all Ursuline women I have grown to love, is strong, kind, and has the special gift of listening and touching the soul and spirit of those around her.

How could I help but become involved with the work of these sisters whose presence to me served as the backbone of service and morality so needed everywhere?

Now, as to the work of the Ursulines in Brownsville/Matamoros, one vibrant young-at-heart Sr. Michelle Guerin (now residing in New Rochelle, NY) returned, unwillingly due to health, from Brownsville several years ago with such enthusiasm about the people and the work there that I could not resist.

It is important to my husband and myself that we support programs which help people to help themselves, as many are capable of doing given only the tools. In all the programs, which I am aware of involving Ursuline presence, I sense that this presence enhances the spirit and promotes justice and joyful love of God.
